Picking the Perfect Gift

Happy first day of Hanukkah! Christmas is just a few days away. Don't have all of the gifts bought yet? Don't fret!
I have already discussed in a blog posting that the gift of a spa treatment is the best kind of gift to give and to receive. But which treatment is the best treatment? Well, it depends on who you're giving it to.
  • For a mother who enjoys feeling a little pampered but wouldn't feel comfortable with a massage; a manicure and pedicure is always your best bet.
  • For the lady who is always on the go, always working, attending charity events and taking care of her children, a massage would treat her best.
  • A man who likes to look extra spiffy for work would like a facial... and pretty much any woman loves a rejuvenating facial.
  • There are also treatments that specialize for the younger patron. Teenagers are always excited about their first trip to the spa.

No matter what you give, it's the thought that matters. And, showing someone you care about their health and spiritual well-being always does the trick.

Oils

What's your favorite essential oil? Mine has got to be Amber. I realized how much I absolutely love the scent of amber. It also lasts a long time. I put it on two days ago, two showers ago, and I can still smell it on my skin and clothes. I have also heard stories from a girlfriend of mine that it even attracts men for her. It is a natural alternative to those chemical perfumes (which seep into your skin). Oils are also therapeutic, they give you a new, relaxed mindset. Aromatherapy oils, as opposed to fragrance or "perfume oils," are natural, plant-derived oils which are also known as "essential oils." They are therapeutic, wound-healing, delicious to inhale, and often antibacterial. Choose one of our specially blended aromatherapy oils to make your massage a magically relaxing experience. The physical application of essential oils, in addition to simply breathing in their fragrances, stimulates the body, mind, and spirit.

Spirit Lifting at the Spa

A good friend of mine got laid- off today. A sad text message to get in the morning from a friend. I've been thinking of a way to cheer her up all morning. I think that treating her to a relaxing spa treatment is the only way to go. Have a friend feeling down in the dumps? Had a bad day? Go to your local spa for some relaxing treatments with your friend and help relax and ease the stresses of a bad economy. Help your friend get out of a rut with some quality time and quality treatments. It will also be a great chance for you two to get a taste of what your local spa offers as well as try new spa treatments you may not have tried before. Or, bring the spa home to you with at-home facials, pedicures, and more. Lift the spirits of you and your friend while taking care of your skin.

What to Give a Goddess

Honestly, the greatest gift you can give your hard working woman is a gift certificate to the spa. She has been sitting at her desk at work all year. She doesn't want a pair of skis or a puppy. She's got no time for either. Give your beauty the gift of a goddess with a massage that will relieve all of her tension and leave her feeling relaxed and cared for. I know all I want is some spa treatments and that all my girlfriends really want is to relax this holiday season. Don't get your favorite girl something else to stress her out this year, give her what she really wants.

Keeping Spas Afloat

Spas have grown incredibly in number over the past decade. What used to be exotic and dominated by women, is now offered everywhere and caters to everyone. Spas are basic essentials in hotels, cruise lines, and basically every New York block. So, how will they survive now that the economy has taken a turn for the worst? According to an article in travelwires.com "service excellence, well trained staff, quality products and exceptional ambience. Because the client has a wide pool to choose from, the ultimate decider will be the spa that offers the overall spa experience which engages all five senses. Customised treatments are also popular with clients as opposed to generic treatments. People like the extra personal touch. There is no doubt that demand for spa services will continue as people look for an escape from the daily grind of modern day living." Anti-aging is another trend that will surely continue. I think spas are in good shape as long as they constantly keep their focus on quality products and quality service.

Spa Trends for 2009 Vol. 2

Here is another spa trend for 2009 as highlighted by Susie Ellis in the 6th Annual Trends Report of SpaFinder:

Spas that cater to Generation Y. It makes sense, they're all grown up now, getting jobs and getting to the spas & are ready to try new things.
"The core spa clientele is rapidly shifting from Baby Boomers to Gen X and Gen Y, and it's more than a simple demographic switch: younger generations are now hitting the spa in record numbers, and they're shaping the experience to meet their unique desires. Spas will need to continue to attract aging Boomers, with their considerable spending power, while catering to new generations who typically reject pampering, embrace wellness, and consider spa-going a natural right. To compete, spas will need to rethink everything from design, treatment menus, and standards for use of personal communication devices. Some spas are now allowing iPod usage during massages, are adding party-size treatment rooms, and trumpeting philanthropic endeavors and their commitment to sustainability. All spas will learn to embrace technology, including encouraging online bookings through sites like SpaBooker or sending mobile alerts when last minute spa deals become available."

The Chocolate Fix

The holidays are here and it will be a real test for those of us wanting to stick to our diet. There will be chocolate galore. Delicious cookies and candy(I will of course have a few). But, we can also sooth a chocolate craving with @Ease Spa's Chocolate Fix. "You need not kill your craving for chocolate as you can elevate your senses with a chocolate massage. As experts claim, cocoa-based products are a great source of anti-oxidants that help in fighting various skin problems, especially aging signs." In an article I found in The Times of India, they describe chocolate treatments as " rich in content and promises to leave your skin silky soft and chocolate smooth. It removes dead cells and its cocoa content makes your skin smooth. At the end of the scrub, your skin feels completely moisturized, revitalized and smells sinfully chocolate." So, the next time you feel yourself craving chocolate and you want to keep to your diet, opt for a different kind of Chocolate Fix.

Spa Trends for 2009 Vol. 1

It's that time of year again. In just 25 days it will be 2009, boy did this year fly by. So, I will begin from now until 2009 to talk about some of the "Spa trends for 2009" that will be filling the air. Here are three according to massagemad.com:

Eco-Embedded Spas
The eco-embedded spa that are quietly and meaningfully enmesh environmental awareness throughout the entire spa, so there's no demanding efforts required by the spa guest, who is, after all, there to relax.

Stress Reduction
Spas, out of necessity, will increasingly become learning labs for stress reduction, as consumers realize it takes less than an hour or a ton of expensive treatments to elicit the relaxation response.

Mindful spending
In a challenging economic year, spa-goers will be looking closely for value and tangible results. Spas will be experimenting with creative ways to attract the consumer, earn their trust and exceed their expectations.

Spa for Mom

A spa treatment is the best gift you can give your mother or wife this holiday season. No doubt she's stressed. Taking care of the kids, working, and managing the bills are just some of her responsibilities. She may feel that taking a trip to the spa for a relaxing massage or facial would be over indulgence. But, if you get it for her she can go there free of worry and take time for herself and to enjoy life. Now more than ever, we all need a little "me time", a point in the day to take time to enjoy what we do have and reflect on our lives. Let the woman in your life know that you care about her well being and relaxation by giving her the lasting gift of a spa treatment.

Spend Time With the Ones You Love

As I said yesterday in my post, spending time with the ones you love is important both during the holiday season, and especially now during a recession. We all start thinking about what's important: Our loved ones and our health. So, promote healthy, stress free living with the ones you love. Spas can be for the whole family. Kids like the fancy spa experience while parents like that their kids are learning about taking care of their skin. Families are also enjoying spas together as quality time to bond and relax. Many families either vacationing at resorts will schedule time at a spa or even just go to a spa in their neighborhood. Either way, it’s a shared activity that adds new dimension to the family.
Spas, once only accessible to the rich and famous, are now becoming more accessible to people of all budgets and are springing up everywhere, even in airports. Spas can really be a great, relaxing experience for the whole family promoting peace in the home. If you have never been to a spa promise yourself that this year you will sample the stress-relieving, relaxing and restorative treatments that are so inviting at a spa, and bring the family!

The Spa for Today's Busy Green Bee

Today, we are all turning our attention to new concerns. We are all taking more interest in protecting the environment and staying on a budget. Many people today are over-worked and over-stressed. Here are some necessary elements to today's spa:

Catering to the Over-Worked: Spas need to focus their treatments on the stressed. Stone massages and relaxing treatments that don't take too long are perfect for any busy bee. It's important to take some time to relax but we understand that you have a busy schedule to return to.

Catering to Couples: Being with the one you love is very important right now. Both men and women can enjoy trips to the spa. With everyone so busy, going to the spa is the perfect get-away for couples to spend time together and relax. Treatments for couples are an important element to the spa experience these days.

Going Green: You can go green for less now and spas should see the importance in using natural ingredients. It's better for the environment and better for the spa goer. Most people today know the importance of a greener tomorrow and so does @Ease.

10 Reasons Spas are Doing Well

I discovered an encouraging and very interesting article entitled "10 REASONS TO START A RECESSION-PROOF COSMETOLOGY CAREER". It states that the cosmetology and spa industries are still doing well despite the recession. It's good to know that people still see the importance of relaxation during tough times. "People may be cutting back on big ticket items such as automobiles, homes, and travel, but they're more than willing to reach into their wallets for beauty services that span the spectrum from hair highlights to a trip to the day spa. Despite a rough economy, Americans are still fueling the $60 billion dollar cosmetology industry, since the desire to look good-and feel good-can't be quenched. One salon owner says, 'We've actually seen an increase in clientele asking for facials and massages. People seem to be taking care of themselves even more, now that things are looking a little grim. While jobs are scarce in many sectors, beauty professionals are still in high demand." Also, these two points are particularly pertinent:

The current 'green' movement goes far beyond fluorescent light bulbs and recycling. It's also translating into a solid career choice. Interest in sustainable beauty and fashion equates to a greater demand for highly skilled, licensed beauty professionals who are trained in natural or alternative treatments, such as aromatherapy, body wraps, salt glows, reflexology, and more.

Ultra-luxury is Alive: Cosmetology is a business that caters to the wealthy, including movie stars, CEOs, philanthropists, oil magnates, and others. This ultra-rich consumer easily weathers any recession, and continues to spend lavishly on beauty, health, and wellness.
